Procrastination in leadership isn't just about delayed tasks—it's about delayed impact.
As IT leaders, we often wait for "ideal conditions" to invest in people:
• "I'll start coaching after this migration."
• "I'll focus on mentorship when budget clears."
• "I'll build my leadership presence after the next promotion."
The hard truth? "One of these days" is none of these days.
When we constantly fight operational fires, we manage output but build zero legacy. Leadership follows the Law of the Harvest:
. There is always a delay. You plant seeds of trust and skill today to harvest an autonomous team tomorrow.
. You reap what you sow. Sowing transactional management yields disengaged execution. Sowing intentional coaching yields innovation.
. Growth compounds. Mentoring one person turns into a leader who mentors five more.
The best time to start building your leadership legacy was 5 years ago. The second best time is today.
Ask yourself this week:
• Where am I waiting for "ideal conditions" instead of acting now?
• What is one seed of mentorship or trust I can plant with a team member today?
• Does my calendar reflect a focus on developing people, or just managing tasks?
